Vioxx has been attributed to a number of serious side effects, including
heart attacks and strokes. For more information about your health, we encourage you to
contact your physician.
Merck announced the Vioxx recall after a number of studies concluded
that the drug more than doubled the risk of serious heart problems. The serious side
effects first were reported in 2000, although the recall did not come until 2004.
The more serious Vioxx side effects include:
- heart attack
- stroke
- blood clots
- kidney failure
- liver problems
- stomach and intestinal bleeding
Recent reports from the FDA indicate as many as 27,000 people may have
suffered a heart attack or sudden cardiac death as a result of Vioxx. Another researcher
with the FDA pins the number as high as 130,000.
